NELDA ZEHNDER Nelda Louise Bergman Zehnder was born April 14, 1914, the fifth child of Anna and Fred Bergman and raised on Spring Hill on the North Side of Pgh. She enrolled in Irwin Trade School where they taught sewing. In her early teens she could sew all her dresses. She became a superb seamstress. At 21 years old, she married Charles Zehnder, a city fireman. He passed away on their 51st anniversary. They have a son Charles Jr., daughter-in-law Susan and three grandchildren. She was a volunteer at Passavant Hospital and was especially happiest working with the Easter Seal children. When asked how she was able to reach this age her answer was "I guess I did something right." Her birthday will be celebrated at Vincentian Home where she is a resident. Her youngest sister Bernice Fohl is also a resident there. They are happy to see each other and enjoy having meals together every day.
