Ariana Isabel Bernabe Ornelas, daughter of Gloria Bernabe Ramos and Jose Ornelas of Amherst, Mass., was married Saturday to Nicholas Finnbarr Breasted Smyth, son of Mary Breasted Smyth and Ted Smyth, both of New York and Tamworth, N.H., and formerly of Sewickley. The Rev. Luis R. Gerena Aguiar, a Roman Catholic priest who works in crisis intervention, officiated at the Loeb Central Park Boathouse in New York. Mrs. Ornelas Smyth, 31, is an associate attorney, focusing on health care regulatory law and policy reform, at Hooper, Lundy & Bookman, P.C. in Washington, D.C. The bride graduated magna cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa at Harvard College and received a law degree from Harvard Law School. Her father is a professor and Assistant Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts and former Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and Director of the Bachelor's Degree with Individual Concentration at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her mother is a professor and Associate Director of the Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Mr. Smyth, 30, is an enforcement attorney at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Washington, D.C. After graduating from Harvard Law School, the groom helped draft the statute that created the Bureau while working at the Department of the Treasury. He was named to Forbes' Thirty Under Thirty for Law and Policy in 2012. He also graduated cum laude from Harvard College, the year after his wife. He grew up in Sewickley and is devoted to Pittsburgh. His father is Executive Vice President at McGraw Hill Financial responsible for marketing, communications and government affairs. Previously, he was an Irish diplomat and Chief Administrative Officer at H.J. Heinz, where he worked for 20 years. His mother, a former journalist with The New York Times, The Village Voice and the Dublin periodical The New Nation, is the author of two novels and one non-fiction book.
