(retired) JOSEPH PAUL SAFFRON
Colonel (retired) and Mrs. Joseph Paul Saffron of the North Hills, Pittsburgh, recently celebrated their Golden Anniversary with 40 family and friends at the Alihans Mediterranean Cuisine restaurant in Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Included among the guests were six members of the original bridal party. The family celebration continued with an Easter brunch the following day.
The couple married on April 1, 1967, at the Purification Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Ellwood City, Pa.
Joe was active with the US Army for 28 years in Germany, Vietnam, Korea, and several locations throughout the United States with his final assignment in Washington, DC. Merceda was an art teacher for 25 years in Fairfax County, Virginia where she served as president of a professional teachers' organization, Art Chairperson at West Springfield High School, and was named Art Teacher of the Year for Northern Virginia.
They are the proud parents of Joseph (Lisa) Saffron of Mechanicsburg, Pa; Jen Saffron of Pittsburgh, Pa, and Andy (Ali) Saffron of Springfield, Va. They are the loving "Pop-Pop" and "Me-Maw" of Emily, Carina, and Julianne Saffron, Leo and Eli Baumbach, and Kaya Saffron.
